Star Wars Forces of Destiny Writer Talks About Female Heroism

As the Star Wars franchise continues to expand, it has finally tapped the younger market with spin-offs and explorative lore, but also adapted formats that appeal to the younger generation.

One such project is Star Wars Forces of Destiny, which looks into the stories of its female characters. Speaking to Den of Geek, writer Jennifer Muro shared that the new show will follow the format of other much-followed series like Clone Wars. But more than that, Muro will be creating the stories of characters in a universe that she has been a fan of, thus her angle would be to tell the stories of the inspirational female characters.

"Going into it, I want to represent everyday heroism and the heroic moments that shape these characters in different ways. Leia would handle a situation one way, Ahsoka another way, Jyn another way. That was the goal all along."

Among these characters would be, of course, Leia, whose character she describes to be "revolutionary for her time." Muro took her as the inspiration for the other female roles in Star Wars, but more importantly, she also made sure that the voice we've heard from Carrie Fisher's Leia will remain in the Forces of Destiny.

Stories of other females like Ahsoka, Jyn, Maz Kanta, Sabine Wren, and Rey will also be explored, each of which will have their particular inspirations. These stories will have something in common though, and that's the epic moments of their own heroism as part of the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars Forces of Destiny will go straight to Disney's YouTube channel this July. There will be a two-part TV special on Disney Channel in the fall, where we'll see eight short stories.
