Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi Names Its New R2-D2 Actor

Last year not only took the galaxy's princess and general away, but also the beloved actor Kenny Baker, who had portrayed the iconic droid R2-D2.

However, a new actor will respectfully take his place for Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, and unbeknownst to a lot of people, he has already taken on the droid's persona back in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

In the press announcement via OhSoSmall, it was officially announced that Jimmy Vee will be taking on the role.

"It's been an absolute pleasure to have worked alongside the legendary Kenny Baker. Kenny was a fantastic actor and taught me all the ‘tricks' on how he brought R2-D2 to life which I will continue to portray in his honor. I'm so excited to be a part of the Star Wars universe and can't wait for everyone to see what we've been working so hard on for the last year."

Before landing the role of R2-D2, Vee has taken on stunt performances and appearances in the likes of Doctor Who as some of the monsters and aliens, as well as in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. From the looks of it, Vee will be maneuvering R2-D2 in future projects with Lucasfilm.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be out in theaters on Dec. 15.
