Star Wars: Episode VIII Opening Sequence Possibly Revealed

The still-untitled Star Wars: Episode VIII already wrapped up principal photography last July, and it's in the midst of post-production right now. There's a chance that we might see a teaser attached to Rogue One this December, but until then, Episode VIII is tightly under-wraps; No official plot and synopsis have been revealed, but we may now have an idea on the sequel's opening sequence.

According to Making Star Wars, Episode VIII will begin with the former Stormtrooper Finn (John Boyega) being released from a 'bacta suit' which has healed the injuries he sustained in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Just in case you forgot, Finn was hit by a vicious lightsaber blow by Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) at the climactic battle, and the film ended with Finn in a comatose state, which was made even more painful with Rey's seemingly friendzone-sending kiss.

For those who are not familiar with Star Wars folklore, the 'bacta suit' is an apparatus used to regenerate lost body tissue. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) used it during his treacherous encounter with a Wampa in The Empire Strikes Back. This would make sense if Episode VIII will include references to the original trilogy like The Force Awakens. All the previous episodes have opened with a scene in space so it's likely that this scene won't happen immediately after the opening text scroll.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is set to release in theateres on December 15, 2017.
