We already know that TV faves Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) and Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) are in contention for the lead role opposite John Boyega in Star Wars: Episode VIII. She starred in Belle,Jupiter Ascending, Beyond The Lights, or the cancelled-after-one-season J.J. Abrams spy TV show Undercovers.

Latino Review reports that Mbatha-Raw has auditioned for the role and is in consideration alongside the aforementioned actresse. Also in the running is Me and Earl and the Dying Girl star Olivia Cooke. There are reportedly two major female roles in Episode VIII, and the they are being considered for both. It's too early to speculate about the characters they're playing, but I hope that Mbatha-Raw will get the role.

We already know one major character confirmed to be in Episode VIII, and Benicio del Toro is playing a villainous character. The Rian Johnson-directed film is currently in pre-production, and it's expected to be released on May 26, 2017.
