Star Wars Course Makes Philosophy Interesting

The mysteries of the Star Wars universe are something worth exploring far beyond mere discussions of post-Star Wars marathon viewings.

And in Glasgow University, one professor is taking this discussion to a whole new level with its one-day course that will explore and examine the philosophy of Star Wars.

According to BBC, this open access course, titled Star Wars and Philosophy: Destiny, Justice and the Metaphysics of the Force, will be held on—you guessed it—May 4, which is the Star Wars Force day.

The course will look at the responsibility and accountability of people in the force and their roles for any actions they do. The Star Wars philosophy class will be handled by John Donaldson, as its explores topics like moral responsibility and free will—all set in the background of the galaxy far, far away.

It's an interesting take on philosophy, to say the least, and one that makes good use of Donaldson's interest in Star Wars.

"It's a way of making philosophy more accessible. It's an unfortunate fact that philosophy tends to be hidden away in universities. We hope it will engage people and encourage them to take philosophy further."

This isn't the first time that the University of Glasgow made use of pop culture to explore the depths of philosophy. It already ran courses that made use of The Simpsons, The Sopranos, and The Wire.

Apart from the May 4 schedule, there's also another date that fans can reserve, which is on May 6.
