Star Wars Comics Will See a Major Crossover

Horror and a crossover are coming to the Star Wars comics universe. A new project over at Marvel will bring some horror into the sci-fi franchise and change things up even more.

The official Star Wars website has confirmed that a new duo will be born to (sort of) challenge our canon duos, Han and Chewie style. In a new crossover event, we'll be seeing Luke Skywalker and Doctor Aphra by way of the five-issue crossover Star Wars: The Screaming Citadel.

Star Wars: The Screaming Citadel will be released as a one-shot in May by Kieron Gillen and Marco Checchetto. It will then continue in Star Wars #31 and Doctor Aphra #7.

Jason Aaron revealed that the origin of this crossover takes its cues from the crossover of Vader Down, which was a mashup of his Star Wars book and Gillen's Darth Vader book. While the pairing is certainly unusual, the path that the pair will wind up in is pretty interesting.

"It starts with them venturing into a very dark and scary situation on a faraway alien planet and winding up in the clutches of a sinister alien queen. There's symbiotes involved. There are Aphra's two murderous droids and best-friend Wookie, and then of course, the cast of my book. Hans and Leia and Sana Starros come running into the fray, as well, and there are several new villains who are at play."

As far as the dynamics of the duo is concerned, it seems that function begets fundamentals, given how different the two are. However, there will be a pretty good pairing, if only because it lets the creators showcase an interesting development to equally interesting characters.

There's already some art available for Star Wars: Screaming Citadel, seen above. it will be released in May as a standalone before bleeding into the individual standalone comics.
