Star Wars Cast Gives BB-8 a Colorful Makeover for ‘Force for Change’ Charity Auction

If you want to own a colorful BB-8 droid, then you don’t have to travel to a galaxy far, far away to get one.

British celebs have joined forces with some of the stars in The Force Awakens to create different-colored versions of the beloved droid.

The Force for Change auction will raise funds for the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. The exhibition of the collection matches the DVD/Blu-ray release of the film. It will reportedly be open from Tuesday to Thursday this week on Mortimer Street.

Stars who contributed to the droids’ customizations include Mark Hamill, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Anthony Daniels, Warwick Davis, Simon Pegg, and Jonathan Ross. It looks like the designs describe the personalities of these stars.

Hamill had these words to say about the droids:

It might be in the heart of the Buckinghamshire countryside but Pinewood will always be a galaxy far, far away for me. Star Wars has an unparalleled legacy here in Britain and I'm delighted it contributes so much to the thriving film industry.

My BB-8 brings to life the Pinewood exterior, clapper board and the 'Now filming Episode VIII' sign, which is what I'm doing right now.

The actor said of his design:

Enough of black cabs, red buses and fish n’chips…I wanted to celebrate the joyous bond I felt the instant I met BB-8 on set at Pinewood studios. Droids ARE Us!

My mash-up design is an homage to both BB and 3PO. The touches of red, white and blue hint at the Britishness of the seven film studios, and their talented crews, that have contributed so much to the Star Wars galaxy from England’s countryside.

The sculptor, model maker and special effects enthusiast’s BB-8 said:

If Star Wars had been set in 1890 this is how BB-8 might've looked. He exhibits all the anachronisms of 18th century London and is decorated most patriotically in Union Jack colors.
