Last week, Carrie Fisher revealed in an excerpt of her new book, The Princess Diarist, that she had an affair with Harrison Ford on the set of Star Wars in 1976, but why did decide to reveal it after 40 years?
Now, the actress is saying why she decided to reveal just now after all those years. When she showed up at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to promote her new book, she said: "Well, I will probably get early-onset Alzheimers and forget and then you'd never know. No, I found the diaries, and I decided to publish them - and it was a mistake. It is too big of a story."
"It was 40 years ago," she recalled. "If I waited 50 [to reveal the secret], I would look even worse, so that's why now is the right time."
Fisher said that she felt bad for revealing about the affair since she revealed it, telling the Today Show that Ford is a private man, and that she feels "really bad doing that to him." But she did get the actor's blessing to reveal the affair before putting it on print.
Star Wars: Episode VIII will hit theaters on December 15, 2017.
