While the Star Wars franchise is thriving on the television side, the future in the theatrical film is still uncertain especially now with the delay of Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron and the lack of updates on Taika Waititi's project. Now, it looks like there is a new name that fans would love to see direct a Star Wars film and that is Bryce Dallas Howard, the director of the latest episode of The Book of Boba Fett.
Howard has now emerged as the fan-favorite to direct the next Star Wars film thanks to the fifth episode of The Book of Boba Fett titled "Chapter 5: Return of the Mandalorian" which saw the return of Din Djarin and is considered as the best episode of the series so far (even though it doesn't feature the titular character at all). It's also the third Star Wars episode that Howard directed after helming two episodes of The Mandalorian.
You can view some of the tweets from fans who are clamoring for Howard to direct a Star Wars film including one from Moon Knight showrunner Jeremy Slater:
It is pretty clear that there's now a lot of interest to see Howard direct a Star Wars film since the three TV episodes that she directed so far have been well-received and she has proved that she has what it takes to direct a good Star Wars episode and has potential to direct a great Star Wars movie especially with the way she handles action scenes and character moments.
With everything that we've seen so far, Howard has proved that she is an ideal director for a Star Wars movie and you can also add the fact that her father Ron Howard directed Solo: A Star Wars Story. While there are no confirmed plans yet if she will eventually get to direct her own movie in the franchise, it's been confirmed that she will be directing an episode of the third season of The Mandalorian.
You can watch the latest episode of The Book of Boba Fett directed by Howard on Disney+ while new episodes premiere every Wednesday.
