Star Wars Battlefront 2 Looks at Luke Skywalker After Return of the Jedi

EA, Lucasfilm, and Disney's sequel project, Star Wars Battlefront 2 may bring a new way of looking at heroes and baddies in the galaxy far, far away. But that doesn't mean that the heroes of the Rebellion won't have a place in the spotlight for this Empire-focused title.

Speaking to Newsweek, game co-writer Mitch Dyer revealed that the way they approached the project was to address storytelling from where fans may have thought the story ended. There's also the other task of not only revisiting the story, but also adding to what would become canon in the universe--and that meant working with those who have been deep in the franchise even before Star Wars Battlefront 2.

For Dyer, Star Wars Battlefront 2 will provide more context not just in the arena of the Empire, but also in what happened to Luke Skywalker before he finally appeared in the last scene of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. His inclusion is not as a main character, however, but rather one who ties together the narrative of the trilogies.

"We work with the same people who work with Rian Johnson to make The Last Jedi. The thing I've noticed working with them is it's one singular story that has all these different chapters. It just feels really tight in appearance, and in the relations you have with them, and in that level of symmetry across the entire universe… Lucasfilm would never stand for that because they don't wanna do stuff just because. They don't wanna leverage the heroes and exploit them in a way that cheapens them."

That's why Dyer teased that the method they went with is to assure that they had a great story to tell, as well as deliver a great hook for Skywalker's story that was interesting and tied together.

Of course, that doesn't detract from the main narrative. In essence, Skywalker's story will be told from main lead Iden Versio's point of view and how it develops with regard to the Inferno Squad.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 will be out on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on Oct. 27.
