Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, will be joining Sony's movie remake of Peter Rabbit, Variety reports. The movie will be hybrid of live-action and animation. Another new recruit for the movie is The Night Manager's Elizabeth Debicki.
Peter Rabbit is the classic children's tale by Beatrix Potter about a jacket-wearing anthromorphic rabbit. It tells of the young rabbit's adventure when he disobeys his mother and sneaks into a human's garden. Peter Rabbit appears in five other stories, including The Tale of Benjamin Bunny.
The new film will be directed by Will Gulk, who worked on the 2014 Annie movie. The script will be written by Rob Lieber, who worked on the recent movie adaptation of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. The movie will be made by the animation and visual effects studio Animal Logic, who are known for their work on The Lego Movie.
Those producing the movie are working closely with the publishers. "We at Penguin Random House UK are delighted to be working with Columbia Pictures," Tom Weldon, CEO of Penguin Random House UK said. "As custodians of Beatrix Potter's brand and legacy, we are excited about the opportunity this production will bring to engage a whole new audience with the world of Beatrix Potter and one of her best-loved characters, the mischievous Peter Rabbit."
Peter Rabbit is scheduled to start production in January 2017 and the release date for the movie is March 23, 2018.
It's still unknown what roles Ridley and Debicki will be playing, but my guess would be one of Peter Rabbit's three sisters, Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail. What do you think their roles will be? Are you excited to see them in Peter Rabbit?
