Star Wars Actress Daisy Ridley Joins New Hamlet Film as Key Character

Daisy Ridley is on a roll.

Last month, reports came out that the 24-year-old English actress has been cast by The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams to star in his upcoming sci-fi film titled Kolma. Another movie project ahead for Ridley is the holocaust drama, The Lost Wife, in which she plays one of the main protagonists. Now, according to Deadline, Ridley will be joining another movie yet again, this time, it's a retelling of Shakespeare's Hamlet which focuses on royal women.

The actress will join Naomi Watts, who's already on board the project.

In the Hamlet adaptation, Ridley will play Ophelia, a character romantically involved with Prince Hamlet. The film will also focus on Ridley's relationship with Queen Gertrude (Naomi Watts).

The upcoming film starring Ridley and Watts will be based on Lisa Klein's novel, with a screenplay by Semi Chellas (Mad Men). Set to direct the film is Claire McCarthy (The Waiting City).

In a statement, McCarthy described the movie and Ophelia:

This retelling will be experienced through the eyes of Ophelia and has the kind of romance, complexity and suspense that makes this beloved story exciting to younger audiences.

Earlier today, Ridley shared some adorable photos in celebration of Star Wars Day.

It's isn't a surprise that Ridley's movie projects are pouring right now. With J.J. Abrams alone, the actress managed to impress the director with her audition for The Force Awakens.

Worth noting as well is Nina Gold saying in an interview that Ridley "straight away struck a chord and seemed to have the right feel from the first moment, which is unusual."

Aside from these movie projects, what makes Daisy strong in the Force (the Light Side of it at least), is that despite all the fame she's receiving, the actress has kept humble. She has continued to inspire fanswith her social media posts and interaction with them.

Ridley will be appearing in Star Wars: Episode VIII on December 15, 2017 and Star Wars: Episode IX on May 23, 2019.
