Star Trek: Discovery Will Still Have a Diverse Cast

Bryan Fuller's exit as showrunner from Star Trek: Discovery happened, some fans have feared that the long-awaited show may have lost the brain behind the great series that they hoped for.

As someone who has been considered a co-creator with Alex Kurtzman, Fuller had created the kind of script that would make any Star Trek fan happy to see that show come to life. Even though Fuller is now hooked with his new American Gods project, his seat as executive producer of Star Trek: Discovery still means that the show will still stick to what he had started.

In an interview with CBR, Fuller had reiterated that an inclusive cast is still very much onboard the USS Discovery—so much so that it's a necessity for the show.

"We were very adamant early on about that cast, not just in terms of race but also in terms of gender. Janeway (of Star Trek: Voyager) carved a nice path as did Majel Barrett *Nurse Christine Chapel in the original Star Trek series) in 1966, in the original pilot. So it was important for ethnic inclusivity and gender inclusivity (to be upheld in casting). I was very excited to cast Michelle Yeoh before I left. I was pushing very hard for Sonequa Martin-Green to be cast before I left. So I feel like there's a lot of wonderful diversity represented in the show, and I'm excited to see how it turns out."

The cast lineup of the show is already promising as it is—with even The Walking Dead's Martin-Green sacrificing her character in one of the biggest twists we've seen in the show so far. Just recently, we also learned that Star Trek: Discovery is adding a couple more actors, including Clare McConnell, who will be the Klingon leader Dennas.

Star Trek: Discovery will have a 13-episode first season that will arrive on CBS sometime during summer or fall. It will then move to CBS All Access for streaming, as well as Space for Canada and Netflix for the viewers for the rest of the globe.
