Stan Lee Raves About Tom Holland’s Spider-Man – “I Can’t Believe It”

Playing the role of Spider-Man in the movies is a privilege and an honor, which is why the role is one of the most coveted in Hollywood. However, it's also a role with so much expectation and can be difficult to pull off. Previous portrayals of the superhero by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield had been praiseworthy, and as such, Tom Holland had big shoes as the new actor for the superhero role.

That said, the 20-year old actor's debut performance as the web-slinging hero was superb in Captain America: Civil War. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn think he's the best Spider-Man on the big screen, Captain America actor Chris Evans was impressed by him, and Civil War director Joe Russo thinks the actor is "f—ing invaluable" to the movie.

Now, another big name in the Marvel Universe is putting in a good word for the actor, and it's none other than Marvel Universe comic book writer (and Spider-Man creator) Stan Lee.

This weekend at a spotlight panel discussion during Denver Comic Con, the legendary comic book scribe had nothing but praises for Holland's powerful portrayal of his favorite character. He said, in reference to working with the British actor on Spider-Man: Homecoming:

Oh, he's wonderful. I was with him the other day. He is great. I can't believe it. It's as if we created a living being to be Spider-Man, and it turned out to be Tom.

The 93-year-old Marvel legend also offered teases on 3 cameos he has done in unreleased movies. He said:

Unfortunately, this will frustrate you a little; I have a favorite [cameo], but I can't tell you what it is because it hasn't appeared yet… I had to go [to Atlanta] to do three cameos for three movies at the same time. One of the cameos I did is for the…

After that, he was cut off by a voice saying "Stan, you can't talk."

He then said:

Let me put it this way; it's a movie that'll come out soon. You're going to all want to see it because it's one of your favorites.
In that movie I have a cameo where I'm dressed up as… I won't tell [you], but you are gonna love it.

Looking at the next three Marvel films that will be released soon, we're assuming those cameos include Doctor Strange, coming this November 4, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, to be released on May 5, 2017, and Spider-Man: Homecoming, which hits theaters on July 7, 2017.

Below is Stan Lee's appearance at Denver Comic Con. He discusses about Holland at the 3:56 mark:

Holland was truly impressive as Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War. He was able to capture a young, wise-cracking Peter Parker so well that we don't need affirmation from any bigshot in the industry to know that. Nevertheless, it's still awesome to hear from these leaders in the industry that the actor has done a superb job as Spider-Man. It just makes us more excited of what we'll be seeing of his performance when Spider-Man: Homecoming finally hits theaters.
