Squid Game Clone Called Crab Game is Taking Over Twitch

There's a new Squid Game clone taking over Twitch right now, and it's called Crab Game. Much like the hit Netflix series that became the most-watched original show the streamer ever released, Crab Game is a multiplayer battle royale game where players compete in a series of events based on childhood games. Players are eliminated, until the last surviving player is crowned the winner.

The game, which can be downloaded on Steam, was created by Norwegian developer, Dani, who earlier this year found similar popularity with the survival game, Muck.

Crab Game features games straight from Netflix's original series, like Red Light, Green Light and Glass Stepping Stones, but there's a twist: like playing on an icy landscape. Other games include Hide-and-Seek, King of the Hill. and the Splatoon-type game mode called Splat, where the goal of players is to cover up tiles using their team's color.

When you open the game, you can either create a server or join someone else's, but this game is best played with friends. You can use voice/txt chat but beware of toxic randoms. You can communicate to other players by using proximity voice chat, but the game also makes players' mics sound like they're coming out of a megaphone. You can disable both voice chat and messages.

Instead of being killed by a firing squad, when you lose, your body brutally explodes, and unlike the Hwang Dong-hyuk's South Korean series, Crab Game leaves themes of capitalism, social commentary, and wealth inequality out of the door.

The lobby in Crab Game resembles the resting area in Squid Game, and there's a red button in the center of the room. Unlike players pressing the button for a majority vote to end the survival games in the Netflix series, Crab Game players must press the button to confirm that they're ready. The players are wearing the iconic jumpsuits, but blue instead of green, and there's not much variety when it comes to character design, but who cares?

Crab Game is now available to play for free on Steam.
