Square Enix Reveals Why Final Fantasy XV's Logo Never Changed in Over A Decade of Development

In over a decade of development, Final Fantasy XV went through a lot of changes, fromthe title (It was previously called Final Fantasy Versus XIII) to the battle system and cahracter designs. But one thing never changed: its logo, although it did get some color adjustments.

In the latest issue of Game Informer, Square Enix revealed the reason for this. The logo, designed by longtime Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano, has remained the same because it still represents the role-playing game as is. The logos were designed early in the development of Final Fantasy games, a stage in which they focus on broad themes and major characters that will surely make it in the final version, which generally don't change over time.

Amano explains: "It's in development when these requests go up, so there's not much documentation to go by." The artists typically work with the info they currently have, and Amano then interprets that information on his own to create the logos. When Square Enix was set to announce the title change, they came to him for approval on the new logo. His first impression of it? "Oh, it's finally being released after all this time."

I think the logo looks fantastic, and I'm glad that they didn't end up changing it.

Final Fantasy XV will be released for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One on Sept. 30, 2016. Last week, the Uncovered event unveiled a lot of things Final Fantasy XV, including a 5-episode anime, an animated CGI feature length film, and more.
