Square Enix Cancels Game Tournaments After More Death Threats

It wasn't that long ago when Square Enix received death threats from a 40-year-old gamer who threatened to burn down the company like Kyoto Animation. Unfortunately, things continue to be bleak for Square Enix since the gaming company is still receiving death threats. It's so bad that they are actually canceling gaming tournaments in Japan so that they can find out who is behind these threats.

Square Enix released an official statement regarding the matter, saying that they are working with the police so they can find out what's going on. To ensure a lot of people's safety, Square Enix decided to cancel four tournaments for their game Starwing Paradox, which must have been disappointing to those that were looking forward to that.

Previous reports have claimed that other threats made to the company were done due to their free-to-play games that tend to take away a lot of your money. That's the nature of free-to-play video games and we can condemn, for sure, but that's no reason to threaten them with violence. Come on, guys.

When you consider all the violence going on in the world right now, whether it's all of the Hong Kong riots or the recent mass shootings in North America, it seems like a scary time. The US is claiming that video games are the cause of mass shootings, which is ridiculous, but stories like these aren't helping our cause.

Square Enix will be releasing Final Fantasy VII Remake next year, on March 3, 2020.
