Spider-Man: Homecoming's IMAX Poster Is Wilder Than The Official One

When the official poster for Spider-Man: Homecoming was released, it was immediately slammed by fans online for having too many characters and being edited poorly—resulting in a heavy stream of memes and parodies. The IMAX poster, for Homecoming, however, looks pretty neat, and I think it totally captures the spirit of the movie way better.

Here it looks like your typical high school collage, which I think is brilliant since Peter is introduced as a high-schooler in the film. We still get Tony Stark twice in the photo, but at least he's not overshadowing Michael Keaton's Vulture this time around. Ned Leeds and Liz Allan also feature prominently here, along with Zendaya's mysterious Michelle.

Just to compare, here's the official Homecoming poster:

I'm not that deep in the industry that I understand how movie poster politics work, but I always noticed that IMAX posters tend to be more colorful and experimental as compared to the "official" movie posters. I've read somewhere that the reason why movie posters tend to look the same is because actors have deals in the contracts that require their faces to be on the poster a certain way, and the artists have to find their way around that. Maybe the rule doesn't apply to IMAX posters? I'm just spit-balling here.

Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, young Peter Parker returns home to live with his Aunt May. Under the watchful eye of mentor Tony Stark, Parker starts to embrace his newfound identity as Spider-Man. He also tries to return to his normal daily routine -- distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just a friendly neighborhood superhero. Peter must soon put his powers to the test when the evil Vulture emerges to threaten everything that he holds dear.

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7.
