Spider-Man: Homecoming Profits Are All Going To Sony

There's a lot of anticipation building over Spider-Man: Homecoming as Tom Hollan's first feature film as Marvel's favorite webslinger draws closer to its release date, and while many fans anticipate another successful comicbook movie installment for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it looks like all the movie's profits are going to Sony Entertainment Pictures.

Though Peter Parker is a Marvel hero, his film rights are owned by Sony, and for the longest time ever the superhero's been unable to fight alongside other Marvel characters in the MCU. However, Marvel and Sony have managed to strike a deal, and now Spidey has his own Marvel movie. Now, according to a report by the LA Times, the deal between the two studios has all of the profits of Spider-Man: Homecoming going to Sony while all of the sales from the character's toys and merchandise go to Disney as well as creatively use the webslinger in the MCU.

"I never thought we'd be able to make a Spider-Man movie set in our universe, and here we are," Feige said during an interview with the publication. "It truly was a dream-come-true scenario."

Team-ups between studios are exceedingly rare, but it looks like both Sony and Marvel are getting it good. Sony finally gets a comicbook accurate Spider-Man in the well-established money machine called the MCU, and Marvel Studios gets its hands on one of the most-loved Marvel comicbook characters. It's a win-win situation.

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters on July 7, 2017.
