No other Spidey outfit stands out like the Tony Stark-designed Iron Spider from the Civil War comic, and though we didn't get to see that suit in Captain America: Civil War, it still influenced the Spider-Man suit that we'll be seeing more of in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Talking to Hey U Guys, director Jon Watts explains:
"Well, in a way the fact that the suit is built by Tony Stark is an indirect inspiration from the Iron Spider suit which Tony Stark built in the comics… We used that as a jumping-off point for all the bells and whistles this suit can do."
Here's the suit for people who don't know:
It's true that this suit in Homecoming doesn't have the same DIY flare that the original suit in the comics had, but it does grant Peter Parker some more animated features like the expressive mechanical eyes. Besides, Peter still has his own DIY suit in the movie, and I still like how it looks.
Though we may never get to see the Iron Spider come to life in the movies, there's still a lot of pretty fun Spider-suits to choose from. Probably the one on the top of everyone's list is the classic black Symbiote suit from Secret Wars. Since Infinity War will see the Avengers shooting up in space, Peter Parker may just as well get the alien suit in Avengers 4. Fingers crossed, guys.
Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7.
