Spider-Man: Homecoming Director Says Marvel Keeps Track of The MCU In A Scroll

Marvel's already got a lot of movies clustered in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and with more than 15 films gathered in the franchise, it's a wonder how the studio keeps track of the entire timeline.

Now, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the director of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Jon Watts talks about how Marvel Studios keeps track of its cinematic universe. In a surprise turn of events, it seems like Marvel keeps its timeline in a scroll.

"It's an actual scroll they unrolled for me," Watts told the publication. "One of my producers, Eric Carroll, it was his first job at Marvel to work on this timeline and to see where things line up and where they didn't quite. It's the most amazing thing because it starts, no joke, at the beginning of time. So you can see where all the events line up! Like, oh that's when Captain America was born."

Watts was also asked where the roll began and whether it started at the MCU's Big Bang.

"I can't remember specifically but I think it has something to do with a Thor storyline," the director answered. "Or maybe Guardians. It's the MCU version of the history of time. It's a very long scroll. Longer than conference table. It's a pretty amazing document."

A scroll seems like a pretty fun way to keep track of the MCU – imagine the studio just dropping the scroll in front of its directors and letting it unroll slooowly. We wonder if Marvel Studios will let fans take a look someday.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is currently screening in cinemas.
