Spawn Reboot Isn't a Superhero Movie

Todd McFarlane's Spawn reboot has fans of the comic series fairly excited. Not only will it be a hard Rated R film but McFarlane promised that it would make Deadpool look kid-friendly, or something similar. Speaking with Azcentral, it looks like plenty of progress has been made with the film, as McFarlane discussed a number of important details.

The Image co-founder says that a script has already been signed off on, so budgeting is the next part they are working on. He has also discussed cast meetings and the film's rated R rating. What might surprise casual fans of the series is that McFarlane called it a supernatural thriller and said it is not a superhero film.

Here's McFarlane's full statement:

"We just signed off on the script, and are going into budgeting. We're also having our casting meeting… It will be dark and heavy, serious, R-rated. It won't be a superhero movie. I don't think most people would categorize it as that. It will be a supernatural thriller, like a lot of good creep movies. The only thing in the movie that's fantastic is Spawn, and anything else is otherwise normal."

In previous interviews, McFarlane said Spawn's presence in the film would be similar to Jaws. He won't be the main character but when he shows up, things start to pick up. This would make the supernatural thriller statement accurate and it would be cool to see on the big screen.

Spawn still has no release date.
