Spawn Movie Gets A Stan Lee Cameo Written By Todd McFarlane

Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee is a cameo staple, making appearances in many of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's films and popping up in a few of Marvel Television's promotional material and backdrops. In fact, Lee's cameo career may even overshadow his work as the co-creator of many of Marvel's different characters as fans remember the legend's different quirky appearances on the big and small screen.

Eyeing Lee for a cameo outside of Marvel, comic writer and director Todd McFarlane is hoping to have Lee appear his new Spawn movie, going as far as writing the comic legend into his script.

Speaking at a panel at the Emerald City Comicon in Seattle last weekend (via CBR), McFarlane reveals the scene where he brings Lee into the movie.

"Stan Lee is in this building, and it's a rundown building, and you kick open the door, you catch him by surprise, and he's dressed in a wifebeater shirt," McFarlane told the main stage crowd at the Washington State Convention Center. "He hasn't shaved for four days. He's got a beer in one hand, and he's got a big stogie in the other hand."

"That's just the set-up," McFarlane continued. "[Lee] always looks nice in his movies — I just want to do that crusty old curmudgeon. Basically, what his wife sees in the morning when he wakes up. The real Stan Lee. I want you to come into that movie and really act. I want you to just be nasty. It'd be awesome."

Surprisingly it seems like Lee is open to the idea, saying that it would be best if the film invited him just for a minor appearance.

"I don't get roles that are too big in the movies, because everybody is afraid I'll get mistaken for Clark Gable," the comics legend said.

Though it would be quite a surprise for Lee to appear in a film outside of Marvel, Spawn still has a minute link to the studio since McFarlane used to write for Marvel's Spider-Man comic franchise. It would definitely be interesting to see McFarlane feature someone from his time at Marvel in the upcoming Spawn movie.
