Sonic the Hedgehog has ended up becoming a financial success and even managed to get a passable score in Rotten Tomatoes, though it's easy to see why Sega and Paramount are only promoting the audience score. The movie has been through its fair share of road bumps, from the big character redesign to well, that's basically it, to be honest. Still, that original design was a huge point of contention and it resulted in the aforementioned redesign (and a studio closing down).
Despite all of that, Sonic the Hedgehog is a success and director Jeff Fowler has decided to thank all of the fans who have made this possible. Considering how so many of us thought that this movie would bomb, it's good to know that the redesign was able to gain some fans. Will it lead to a sequel where Knuckles and Tails make an appearance? We can only hope.
Fowler thanked all of the fans and everyone responsible who made the movie a success. While he didn't name the studio that closed down, it is a nice gesture from the director. We can't blame him for that studio's downfall since Paramount is the reason why we even had a bad design, to begin with, though you could argue that Fowler must have given his blessing.
Anyway, good redesign and harmless movie. All's well that ends well I guess.
Sonic the Hedgehog is now showing in theaters.
