Sonic the Hedgehog Artist Confirms Involvement with the Character's Redesign

Paramount Pictures listened to us and as a result, we now have a vastly improved character design for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Much like the awesome Pokemon from Detective Pikachu, the filmmakers have managed to get what's great about Sonic's iconic design while also updating him a bit to make the character more "realistic." Granted, we don't know why you'd want to make a blue hedgehog with super speed realistic but that's just how some things go.

Anyway, Sonic looks awesome and we now know one of the people partly responsible for the Sonic redesign; Tyson Hesse. That's right, the artist who provided covers for IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog comics and helped out with the amazing animated shorts for Sonic Mania helped make this CGI abomination adorable and he succeeded.

Hesse went to Twitter and talked about how honored he was to work on the film, enjoying his work with the various artists and animators in Los Angeles. Fans are also giving Hesse plenty of praise since simply put, this is a much better character design and should have been his model from the get-go. This is so much better than nothing.

Though the story's concept seems a bit too silly, the improved character model might actually convince me to watch this movie. The fact that it also has Jim Carrey, who hasn't acted in a couple of years, is also seen as a plus to some.

Sonic the Hedgehog comes out on February 14, 2020. The movie is now a more appropriate Valentine's Day movie.
