Solo: Lawrence Kasdan Talks Abot L3-37 and Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Performance

The Solo spinoff movie promises to reunite us with old characters, but we're also getting a handful of new ones, including Phoebe Waller-Bridge's droid character L3-37. She will be the first main droid character that is "female" in Star Wars, and writers Jon and Lawrence Kasdan talk about what we can expect from L3.

Talking to EW, Lawrence Kasdan states:

"[L3] has a working relationship with Lando, and it's very sophisticated and informed by years of working together. And, Phoebe, herself, is hilarious. The effect that she will appear in is amazing, but she comes through very strongly even with this astounding [CGI], both her humor and her physicality. If you meet Phoebe, she's one of these people you just fall in love with immediately."

It's worth noting that Waller-Bridge will be the second mo-cap actor to play a droid character; the first one being Alan Tudyk as K-2SO in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, another anthology film. Just like K-2, L3 is said to be "subservient to no one," and is actually a self-modified droid who has pieced herself together with different parts.

Seeing that L3 is said to be Lando's partner, I can't help but think that she's a precursor to Lando's droid in Empire Strikes Back, Lobot. Then again, I imagine that Lando also needs his own co-pliot while he still owned the Falcon, and L3 is perfectly suited for that role.

Catch L3-37 in Solo: A Star Wars Story when it hits theaters May 25.
