Skottie Young and Nic Klein's Deadpool Joins Marvel's Fresh Start

Deadpool has been through the ringer since Secret Empire and it is all going to culminate in the character's milestone issue in May; Despicable Deadpool #300. The monumental issue will be the final one for long-time Deadpool scribe Gerry Duggan, who started the series with Brian Posehn back in 2012 before writing the series by himself with a number of artists.

This isn't the end of the Merc with a Mouth, however, as Marvel has announced that there will be a new Deadpool #1 as part of the Fresh Start relaunch, with Skottie Young and Nic Klein as the new creative team.

Revealed by Polygon, the new Deadpool series will be out this June and it looks like the new team is going to make things lighter for the character. Considering how the Merc with a Mouth has had to kill people to keep his family safe, this should be a relief to those that had to drink after reading the most recent issues of the character.

"I like to write stories that move fast and keep you on the ride. And I like to try and make you laugh while someone his getting their arm broken or head exploded. hahaha. Similar to my run on Rocket, I like doing shorter stories and have threads that weave in and out."

Young, who most fans might know for his baby Marvel variant covers, is a big fan of Deadpool. The former Rocket Raccoon writer said that he had always wanted to work on the character, even when he was writing for the Guardians of the Galaxy member.

"Before I pitched Rocket Raccoon back in 2013, I tried to get Deadpool. Haha. But he was spoken for so I said ‘well, i can kind of have a similar vibe for Rocket, just cleaned up a bit.' So my head was already in that place."

Here is the official solicitation from Marvel:

Skottie Young and Nic Klein bring you the craziest tales of the regeneratin' degenerate yet! It's been a while since Deadpool's had to merc to make ends meet, but things are tough all over. While Deadpool tries to get his humble mercenary-for-hire business back off the ground, a catastrophic threat so unfathomably huge, so mind-breakingly cataclysmic it defies description, is heading towards Earth, and there's only ONE PERSON WHO CAN STOP IT!!!
Oh no, wait, it's…it's not Wade, is it?
Oh, ????. It's Wade.

Deadpool #1 comes out on June 6.
