Simon Pegg Clarifies That Captain Britain Rumor That’s Been Circulating Online

After seeing so many of the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy turning into dust in Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel fans have begun to seriously wonder what kind of heroes Marvel would bring in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the heroes that's come to mind has been Captain Britain, a character which was rumored to be a superhero that Star Trek actor Simon Pegg always wanted to play.

Back in May the Mission Impossible star was asked which superhero he'd like to play if given the chance, and Pegg wasn't afraid to say that he'd grown up with Captain Britain and would love to take ion the role. However, it seems like Pegg might not be that into the idea of playing Marvel's Captain Britain.

Speaking with journalists during a press junket for Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Pegg was asked by Screen Rant whether he'd be interested in joining a superhero franchise. Taking time to answer the publication, the actor clarified his previous comments about wanting to play Captain Britain, saying that he's not really invested in the role.

"I think somebody asked me recently at an interview that had nothing to do with superheroes. What superhero would I'd like to play. And I just sort of said Captain Britain, because I used to get the Hulk Weekly when I was a kid. And Captain Britain debuted in that. And he's a British superhero. I used to read the Knights of Pendragon. And I figured that was a good answer. Suddenly, all these rumors popped up. Oh, Simon Pegg wants to play Captain Britain. I don't really. But you know, I mean, I try to take every job as it comes. I don't have any ambition really to be in anything else, other than what I'm in now. If something comes up and it looks good, of course, it'll be fun. I love watching the Marvel films. They're always so well executed. They've done a fantastic job with that sort of extended universe of movies. But I'm happy to be an audience member."

It's such a shame that Star Trek's Scotty isn't as invested in the role as fans initially believed him to be. A lot of Marvel fans were excited when they heard that Pegg wanted to play Captain Britain, believing that he intended to fight for the part. Of course, Pegg's answer isn't dismissive – the actor will still "take every job as it comes." We'll just have to wait and see.
