Simon Kinberg Hopes Channing Tatum's Gambit Starts Filming This Summer

With the financial success of Deadpool 2 seemingly imminent, fans are more curious about the future of Fox's X-Men films. The Deadpool sequel got a fairly positive rating on Facebook and an X-Force movie isn't far behind, so does anyone still care for Channing Tatum's Gambit? It seems like producer and X-Men: Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg does.

Speaking with Variety, Kinberg gave a minor update on the project and revealed that a script for the film has been completed. Apparently, he likes it and Channing Tatum loves it, so the only thing they need is a director, something they are hoping to find soon.

"We have a script that we love — that Channing loves. We've met with a bunch of directors in the last couple of weeks, and we're hoping to actually pick one in the next couple of weeks and shoot the movie maybe the end of this summer."

Kinberg also said that they met with a bunch of directors and are hoping to make a final decision soon so that they can finally start shooting the film in the summer. It's a bit hard to believe that statement though since the Gambit movie has become notorious for losing directors so here is hoping that they can actually keep one.

Despite his lack of mainstream prominence in recent years, Gambit is still one of the more popular X-Men characters. He currently has a decent enough role in X-Men Red but has mostly been a supporting character in recent comics, aside from a few X-Men Gold issues.

No release date for Gambit has been revealed.
