Shin Godzilla Director Begins Work on New Evangelion Film

Neon Genesis Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno is already done with Shin Godzilla, a.k.a. Godzilla: Resurgence. Speaking to Yahoo! Japan, Hideaki said that he is already working on the fourth and final film of the Rebuild of Evangelion film series. "I'll work hard [on it]," he said. "I mean, I'm already working hard [on it]."

Hideaki has been working on his film series since 2007, and the fourth one, titled Evangelion: 3.0+1.0, will complete the on-screen tetralogy. Fans of the popular anime franchise have been waiting for the fourth film since the third hit theaters in 2012.

Fans were disappointed that the fourth Evangelion film's release would be delayed due to Shin Godzilla, and Hideaki asked for their forgiveness: "To all the Evangelion fans, I'm really, really keeping you all waiting. I am truly sorry."

Hideaki admitted the Evangelion franchise had exhausted him and left him feeling trapped:

"After doing the third entry Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, I thought I wasn't going to make any more," Hideaki said before saying that Shin Godzilla gave him the break he desperately needed. "I went into talks with Toho, and it saved me. I think this is how I'm able to keep making Evangelion. However, since it is a fact that I'm making everyone wait, I deeply apologize for that."

Whiel Hideaki is busy making the fourth Evangelion film, U.S. fans will be able to watch Shin Godzilla since it's getting a limited theatrical release from October 11 to 18.
