Shazam!: The Rock Will Not Appear As Black Adam

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson had been attached to DC's Shazam! project for a while, and we were all expecting to see him suit up as Black Adam in the film. With Warner Bros moving forward with the project, reports have been going out that the Rock will not be in the movie at all.

This was confirmed by Variety's Justin Kroll and The Wrap's Umberto Gonzalez on Twitter. Check it out:

As of now, we know very little about the project, but Lights Out director David F. Sandberg is attached to direct. There have also been rumors coming out that production for Shazam! will start sometime in February 2018.

With the Rock not appearing in the movie, I guess we could expect Black Adam to make his debut somewhere down the road. I'm very interested in who they will cast as the main character Billy Batson, because they will have to look for someone to play young Billy and another actor to be Captain Marvel.

In the comics, young Billy Batson transforms into Captain Marvel by uttering the magic word "Shazam" (an acronym for Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury) and is granted amazing superhuman powers. He was probably the biggest hero back in the 40s, but the original publishers of the character were sued by DC because Captain Marvel was too much like Superman.

Now the character sits comfortably in the DC family, and is just awaiting to be introduced to a brand new audience.

Just for fun, watch Captain Marvel and Superman duke it out in Justice League Unlimited:

We still have no official release date on Shazam! but hopefully we get an update at SDCC 2017.
