Shazam!: Kingsman's Mark Strong In Talks To Play Villain Doctor Sivana

Mark Strong has actually had a pretty good run when it comes to comic book movies. He was a fantastic Sinestro in Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern movie and he also played the villain for the first Kick-Ass film. Lately we've seen him as Merlin in the Kingsman franchise, but now he's said to be in talks to play the villain for DC's upcoming Shazam! movie.

According to The Wrap, Strong is being eyed to play longtime comic book villain Doctor Sivana. In the comics, Sivana was a scientist who was able to deduce the secret identity of Captain Marvel. Even if he's a scientist, he gets drawn into the world of magic after an accident involving the tomb of Black Adam—at least that's Sivana's New 52 story.

I absolutely love Mark Strong, and I think he makes a great villain whenever he needs to be. Sure Green Latern was a flop, but Strong's Sinestro had such a presence that it was a delight whenever you saw him onscreen. Sure he can't be Sinestro anymore, but I think he definitely looks the part for Doctor Sivana.

The cast for Shazam! is slowly growing, and it's only a matter of time before we see some official images of Zachary Levi in costume. The next casting news we'll probably hear is whoever the movie cast as young Billy Batson. As far as child actors go, I think Noah Schnapp would do a great job. He was amazing as Will Byers in Stranger Things 2.

Shazam! is set for a release April 2019.
