Shazam!: First Official Look at Zachary Levi as Captain Marvel

It has been teased that we will be getting our first look at DCEU's Shazam! come SDCC 2018, but thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we finally have out first official look at Zachary Levi as Captain Marvel.

Check it out:

Besides Captain Marvel, we have a look at Billy Batson's fellow orphan Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer). We don't know if Freddy will actually turn into Captain Marvel Jr. in the film, but I guess that's something they could be saving for the sequel—should there be one.

When it came to the design of the costume, director David F. Sandberg had this to say:

"I wanted to keep the shorter cape as a throwback to the original because that's something that sets him apart from Superman or Batman… It makes him feel a bit more Golden Age superhero, which is the vibe I'm going for."

Of course, the costume still took some more modern design concepts like the hood that was introduced in New 52.

With the MCU giving us more modern versions of superhero outfits, it's kind of cool how the DCEU manages to keep to the original style without making the characters look silly. I'll admit, Shazam! is supposed to be a comedy action movie, but damn, does Levi look amazing in that suit.

Catch Shazam! in theaters April 5, 2019.
