Shazam! Director Already Preparing For Negative Feedback

Adapting comic books and turning them into movies is one of the most thankless jobs anyone can ask for. Fans passionate about the original source material tend to nitpick about changes made, even if they were needed to make the story more accessible. David Sandberg, the man who will be directing Shazam!, is already preparing for the backlash, which is a bit sad.

On Twitter, Sandberg pointed out how no matter what he does, he will be receiving some form of backlash when information about the DCEU film is eventually released. Sandberg brought up the colorful history of the character, pointing out how fans will complain if he has a hood from the New 52, or if he doesn't have one like in the original comics.

Sadly, he brings up a good point, since fans have been critical of the various changes to both Marvel and DC films. Fox continuously gets complaints on how they handle the X-Men films, even though most of them were about super-powered racism like the comics. DC also gets plenty of flack for how they've handled characters recently, from a joyless Superman who rarely smiles to a Batman who kills without question.

Changes will be made to Shazam!, but they could be done to make things better. The hero has been around for some time, so some of his histories are a bit silly. Hopefully, Sandberg does a good job and fans enjoy the film.

Shazam!, directed by Sandberg, will be hitting theaters on April 5, 2019.
