Sean Bean Reveals Ned Stark’s Final Words Before His Death In Game Of Thrones

It's been a while since Ned Stark's head rolled off in Game of Thrones, but now that the overwhelmingly popular fantasy epic's waiting for the premiere of its eighth and final season on HBO, it looks like Sean Bean's finally giving away the final words of the noble King of the North.

Ned's death created quite a rippling wave of violence in Game of Thrones and many who mourned the loss of one of the series' most noble characters continue to wonder what exactly the King of the North was saying to himself at the moment of his death at the hands of then-King Geoffrey (Jack Gleeson).

Debunking the many theories that have surrounded Ned's final words, Bean tells the Huffington Post that the character was actually "just saying a prayer."

"It appears that way, doesn't it? Couldn't be too specific, because I don't know if religion [like that] was around in those days, whatever they were. I just thought, ‘What would you do if this were really gonna happen?' You probably would pray. You probably would murmur some words and you'd keep it quiet. You'd keep it to yourself.

It's quite subtle in that many people wouldn't pick it up. It was an interesting thing to do for me at that point. There's not much you can do really, you've got your head on a block. That's about the only thing you can do is murmur."

Though Ned's last words aren't as grand as a "Valar morghulis," or a prophecy, or a message for Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) to decode when he becomes the three-eyed raven, the sincerity of a prayer makes Ned's death even more heartbreaking.

Game of Thrones returns with its final season sometime in 2019.
