Scorpion’s Revenge: Watch First Trailer for Animated Mortal Kombat Movie

We know that a live-action Mortal Kombat movie is coming next year, but WB is set to come out with an animated movie this spring. Just in, we now have our first trailer for Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge.

Here's the official description (via IGN):

Based on the worldwide hit game created by Ed Boon & John Tobias, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge spotlights the once-in-a-generation tournament between the champions of Outworld and Earthrealm - a competition that will ultimately determine the fate of Earth and all its citizens. Lord Raiden, protector of Earthrealm, must gather the greatest fighters of his realm to defend it from the evil Shang Tsung in the battle to end all battles - Mortal Kombat!

Probably the character I'm most excited about in the movie is Johnny Cage because he's being voiced by Community's Joel McHale. Besides him, the movie also cast Jennifer Carpenter (Sonya), Steve Blum (Sub-Zero), Jordan Rodrigues (Scorpion), and Grey Griffin (Kitana). I have to say, though the movie has Scorpion's name in the title, he doesn't seem to be the main focus of the trailer.

What's also weird is, the rating for this movie is still unclear. We know that the Mortal Kombat franchise is notorious for violence, but we don't see anything like that in this trailer. With this being an animated film, I have a feeling WB wants it to be a bit more kid-friendly, with maybe only hints of violence here and there; nothing like the video games.

Then again, I could be wrong.

Catch Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge when it comes to digital and Blu-Ray this spring.
