Saw Gerrera Might Get a Star Wars Anthology Film

It looks like LucasFilm isn't done with Forest Whitaker's Saw Gerrera.

Earlier this month, Disney and LucasFilm's released the very first Star Wars spin-off film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The film was massively successful amongst fans, with many praising the film for its ability to balance both novelty and nostalgia as the spinoff takes its audiences to the heart of the battle in the Star Wars universe. Among the many things that fans enjoyed in the film was the Whitaker's portrayal of extremist rebel, Saw Gerrera, a character fans first met in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

While Whitaker's character was short-lived in Rogue One, the Collider reports that the studios might make way for a Saw Gerrera anthology film in the future. If Han Solo, Lando and Boba Fett all landed some sort of anthology film, it isn't far-fetched to think that Rogue One's war-ridden Rebel extremist would be getting one in the future too.

LucasFilm President Kathleen Kennedy teased in an interview with Empire earlier this month that they might have more room for Gerrera in the future and Whitaker's interested in seeing what the studio would do with the Rebel character as well.

"I'm curious about what else they're about to do," Whitaker responded. "Because they seem to really like the character, which is great!"

While fans wait for more of Saw Gerrera on the big screen, they can also try to catch the character in DisneyXD's animated series, Star Wars Rebels.

Star Wars Rebels returns with the rest of season 3 this January 7, 2017.
