Samuel L. Jackson Doesn't Think Thor: Ragnarok Should Be 'Funny'

Taika Waititi is a director with a good comedic background directing movies like What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. He'll be the third director taking on the Thor franchise, and word has been coming out that Ragnarok will be one of the funniest movies in the lineup. Though that could be good news to some people, Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) apparently doesn't agree with the change in tone.

In an interview with Sirius XM, Jackson was along with co-star Tom Hiddleston promoting the release of Kong: Skull Island, and when asked about Thor, Hiddleston said, "[Director Taika Waititi] is brilliant at comedy. I think Chris [Hemsworth] has some untapped comedy chops, actually, and they found ways of making the whole world of Thor just hilarious."

To which Jackson said, "Sacrilege!... Humor in the Marvel Universe? That's Guardians of the Galaxy. Not for you guys. You guys are serious. I am going to speak to someone about that."

Hiddleston then was quick to say that fans shouldn't worry since the movie has "very high stakes."

I think Jackson was overreacting a bit when he said that humor wasn't for the rest of the Marvel universe. If you watch Avengers, there's a whole ton of humor involving Loki and the others. GotG may have had a lot more jokes, but it's not the only "funny" Marvel film.

I'd also have to give props to Taika Waititi as a director. Though his movies are incredibly funny, they do hit some very serious and emotional beats. Just watch his latest work Hunt for the Wilderpeople or Boy; both films very funny, yet incredibly serious and touching. Let's just hope he still has the same magic for Thor: Ragnarok.

Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok is set to hit theaters Nov. 3.
