Rogue One Writer Pitched A Different Fight Scene For Darth Vader

Star Wars fans all held in their breath when they saw Darth Vader enter the darkened hallways of the MC75 cruiser of General Raddus in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. With his saber lighting the halls, Vader cut down Rebels left and right as he tried to get his hands on the Death Star data Jyn Erso's (Felicity Jones) Rogue One team stole from Scarif.

Heart-pounding as the scene was, Rogue One writer Gary Whita reveals a different setting for the iconic villain's fight sequence. On Twitter, Whitta was asked by fans how close the Vader sequence was to the original story he had prepared for the Star Wars standalone. According to the Star Wars writer, he actually had a different pitch for the scene, saying that he actually planned to have Vader on Scarif along with the other Imperial troops, "single-handedly slaughtering his way through a Rebel blockade at the base of the Imperial Tower."

Of course, while single-handled slicing down a Rebel blockade does sound like another impressive display of power, it doesn't have as much dramatic flair as having Vader cut through the Rebel team chasing after the Death Star plans in a darkened hallway. It was definitely a good call that Whitta and the team went with the Raddus Hallway Darth Vader fight sequence instead.
