Rogue One Actor Riz Ahmed Blasts Media’s Double Standards in Portrayal of Muslims and Terrorism

Rogue One star Riz Ahmed is blasting the media for its double standards in covering terror attacks in the wake of the recent London attack last night where a van rammed through a group of worshipers who were leaving the Finsbury Park Mosque.

With one confirmed dead and 10 injured, the police confirm the arrest of the 48-year-old male driver on the suspicion of attempted murder. While the event is as tragic as ever, most media outlets have failed to call the attack one done out of terrorism, and Ahmed has taken to Twitter to express his dismay with the media's representation of Muslims and terrorism.

"When crazy Muslim kills, it's MUSLIM TERROR," the Star Wars actor posted in four different Tweets. "When Muslims save lives and lead relief at Grenfell where's the MUSLIM HEROES headlines? And when non-Muslims shoot American politicians and drive a van into Muslims, why isn't it called TERRORISM? where are the calls for white males or American gun-owners to answer for all others? Prejudice, extremism, supremacism is all the same.

Ahmed certainly makes strong points – the media tends to thrive on Muslim Terrorism, however the industry often fails to tell stories where Muslims actually do good, or misrepresent stories where Muslims themselves are victims.

An advocate of social justice, the Rogue One star was recently deemed by TIME magazine as one of the 100 most influential people of 2017.
