Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be released in theaters worldwide in a few days, and with it comes a batch of new characters, creatures, and ships. One of the latest additions is the U-Wing Fighter, which is a new starship that's part of the Rebel Alliance's fleet and will play an important role in the film.

Entertainment Weekly's Anthony Breznican shared a new look at the U-Wing and some interesting details about its design. He describes it as the hybrid of the X-Wing and the Y-Wing bomber. The cockpit and engines resemble that of the Y-Wings and X-Wings of the Original Trilogy, respectively, and the forking mandibles on the front of the U-Wing are similar to that of the Jedi Interceptors in Revenge of the Sith.

According to executive producer John Knoll, thereasoning behind the similarities between the X-Wings, Y-Wings, and U-wings is that all three ships were manurfactured by The Incom Corporation. Watch the video below:

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," an all-new epic adventure. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be released in theaters on December 16, 2016.
