Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Director Gareth Edwards Drops Godzilla 2

Unfortunate news for Godzilla fans. Would-be Godzilla 2 director Gareth Edwards has just dropped out of the project.

Edwards was supposed to helm the monster film after filming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Apparently, that won't be happening.

As Deadline reports, Edwards' exit from the project had been "amicable."

Warner Bros. and Legendary had recently re-shuffled the release dates of their monster films, aimed at gradually creating a shared universe. In 2014, there was Godzilla, to be followed by Kong: Skull Island in March 2017, Godzilla 2 on March 22, 2019, and Godzilla vs. King Kong in May 20, 2020.

The draft for the Godzilla sequel has been penned by Max Borenstein, expected to feature Mothra and Godzilla facing off.

The project is now in search of potential directors.

Hopefully, this change of plans wouldn't mire the quality of the classic monster film that we have come to love.
