Robots Fight For Survival in Compelling Sci-Fi Short 'Rise' With Anton Yelchin


It's rare for us to root for the robots against humans in science fiction films, but in this new short, it looks like the robots are the ones oppressed, and they're about to rise to fight. The short film is called Rise, and it's set in the future when “sentient robots are targeted for elimination after they develop emotional symmetry to humans and a revolutionary war for their survival begins.”

The film was directed by David Karlak and was written by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton (Feast). They also managed to cast Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) and Rufus Sewell (Gods of Egypt). This is a proof of concept that they're hoping to turn into a full-length feature film. 

Rise looks like your typical robots vs. humans movie at first, but it eventually becomes like a fusion of I-Robot and Rise of The Planet of The Apes. The visual effects look great. 

The filmmakers raised $38,000 through crowdfunding to create this film, and it doesn't disappoint. I hope the project gets a feature length film. Watch the short below:
