Robert Downey Jr. Wants To Quit Playing Iron Man 'Before It's Embarassing'

This year saw Hugh Jackman exiting the Wolverine role that he's embodied for the last 17 years, and Robert Downey Jr., who is the perfect Tony Stark/Iron Man, is saying that he might bow out of his superhero character as well.

In an interview with News.com.au, RDJ explains:

"Everyone says to me it's like a glove that fits so well. I have to start over every time but I am starting over with a pretty solid base. I just never want to blow it for the last six or seven [movies] I have done by dropping the ball because I decided to go do it one more time. I just want to hang up my jersey before it's embarrassing."

You can always understand some actors when they don't want to play their roles for too long. At 52-years-old, it might be a nightmare for Downey to keep his physique in superhero shape. There's also the problem of typecasting—but then again, everyone pretty much admits that Downey is just playing himself when he's Tony Stark. That's why he's so perfect for it.

Despite showing up as Tony is Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, and Spider-Man: Homecoming, it's actually been a while since we saw Tony Stark center in his own standalone movie. It's actually been four years since Iron Man 3, and since a lot of people agree that the film isn't the best MCU (or Iron Man) flick, I still want to see Iron Man take on the real Mandarin. You know, the one that was teased in the Marvel One-shot.

For now, RDJ is slated to return as Tony Stark in Avengers: Infinity War, but we still have no idea when his final appearance as Iron Man will be.

Avengers: Infinity War is set for a release on May 4, 2018.
