Rivals of Ixalan Magic: The Gathering Mechanics Revealed

The official preview season for Magic: The Gathering's next set, Rivals of Ixalan, started today, and in addition to the batch of new cards spoiled today, Wizards of the Coast also revealed the mechanics that will be featured in the new set.

The mechanics introduced in Ixalan like Explore, Enrage, Raid, treasure tokens, and double-faced cards that transform into lands will return. The only new mechanic that will be introduced in Rivals of Ixalan is Ascend. The mechanic rewards players with the City's Blessing if the player plays a card with Ascend while he or she controls ten or more permanents.

The City's Blessing itself doesn't do anything but if you have it, you'll get bonus effects when you play cards with Ascend like these cards:

You keep the City's Blessing for the rest of the game so even if your permanent count is less than 10, you will still get Ascend bonuses because there's no way to get rid of City's Blessing once you already have it. Here's a video explaining the mechanic:
