Rian Johnson Will Talk Luke And Leia's Relationship But Will Not Confirm A Reunion

Though he was absent for 99 percent of The Force Awakens, we'll be getting more of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Seeing as Carrie Fisher had died late last year and she won't be appearing in Episode IX, a lot of people are hoping that we'll see a Skywalker reunion in TLJ. Bad news is, we'll have to wait for the movie to find out because director Rian Johnson is not confirming anything.

Talking about Luke and Leia's relationship in the movie, Johnson told EW:

"Luke longs to have that extended family that he established in the original trilogy, but now he's at a place in his life and in his history where he's shunned all of that. The big question is why didn't he respond to Leia during [The Force Awakens]? There's a lot of things you can't answer until you see this movie… It's very important for Luke to feel grounded and feel like he has a family. I think he loves her dearly."

When asked about the reunion, Johnson merely pointed out the EW cover with Luke and Leia together saying:

"It's nice seeing them on the cover though. Even if all we have is that."

Before Fisher's untimely death, Episode IX was said to have put a focus on Leia this time around, what with Han Solo being a huge part of TFA and Luke playing the same role in TLJ. J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio are currently working on a script for the last episode of the sequel trilogy, but hopefully we get a proper end to Leia's arc in The Last Jedi.

Will we get a Skywalker reunion? I guess it's best just to wait and see when the movie comes out.

Catch Star Wars: The Last Jedi in theaters Dec. 15.
