Rian Johnson Talks The Last Jedi Deleted Scenes and Extended Cut

Extended cuts seem to be the new trend when it comes to home releases of blockbuster films, but it seems that director Rian Johnson was pleased with his final cut of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and confirms he doesn't want an extended version of the movie.

Talking to Collider, Johnson explains:

"The final cut of the movie is the best cut of the movie that we could come up with. Everything that was taken out, even the stuff that I love so much, was taken out for a reason at the end of the day. For me personally, I've enjoyed extended cuts of other stuff, but I don't think I would ever do one."

As for deleted scenes, Johnson reveals that one that he has grown attached to is a cut sequence of Rey from Ach-To where Luke lies to her and tells her that bandits are attacking the fish-nuns. Johnson explains cutting the scene:

"It's like suddenly you can see through the Matrix and you're like, ‘Oh my God, that big sequence that I love so much and I can't imagine the movie without, if we lift it out and put these two things together, it plays in a slightly different way but it plays better.'"

Personally, I'm happy with the final cut that Johnson gave us. Though I am always eager to see more of Luke and Rey on Ach-To, I thought that the movie was already chock-full of great moments anyway. I guess we'll just have to catch this deleted sequence in the Blu-Ray specials.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is still out in theaters.
