It's pretty safe to say that Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is one of the most awaited film releases of this year but unfortunately, the project failed to click with longtime fans of the video game. Turns out, the criticism and backlash generated from the Resident Evil community forced one of its lead stars to abandon one of his social media platforms.

Actor Avan Jogia, who plays Leon Kennedy in Welcome to Raccoon City wiped all of the photos and videos on his Instagram account after allegedly being harassed by several fans who didn't like his portrayal of the beloved character in the film.

Last year, Jogia's co-star Hannah John-Kamen, who plays Jill Valentine in the film was also forced to disable the comments on her Instagram page after suffering the same fate as Jogia.

As it stands, the Victorious star has yet to address the issue but if it was in fact the fans that drove him away from his social media platform, then those trolls should be ashamed of themselves.

Just because Jogia's performance wasn't satisfactory to some fans, it doesn't give them any right to behave the way they did and harass someone in his safe space. I honestly feel sorry for the guy but still, major props to Avan for doing what he thought was right. I mean, no matter how hostile social media could be, it should still be a fun and toxic-free place for people. It's just a shame that trolls exist.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is still screening in select cinemas.
