Rare Star Wars Jawa Figure Sells For More Than $12,000 At Auction

Vintage Star Wars merchandise can sell for a whole lot, especially now that the epic science fiction space opera film franchise has been revived with a sequel trilogy and a couple of spin-offs. The selling prices of Star Wars items can bloat to more than 25% the original cost and sometimes, way, way above that.

One of these vastly expensive vintage Star Wars items is a rare Star Wars Jawa figure. According to a report by Belfast Telegraph, the mint figure with its crucial vinyl cape was bought off by a collector at £10,000 or $12,400. The Jawa figure was bought off a market stall at pocket money price back in the early 80's and was expected to go at around $6200 - $7440 by the Vectis auction house.

The vendor revealed in a statement that he had bought the figure from a market in Bacup, Lancashire, saying that the stallholder had told him to purchase the Jawa toy since it was rather rare.

"It took him weeks to find it and I remember him telling me how hard it was to locate and how rare it was and for that reason I never opened it," he said. "It has never been opened, out of my possession or altered in any way and I hope it goes to a collector who values just how rare a piece it is."

While most people wouldn't understand the value of collecting items, die-hard Star Wars collectors do know that there is a market for their Lucasfilm merchandise waiting for them– it's all about timing, rarity, age and of course, good judgment.

So whenever your parents tell you to that you're wasting time and money on Star Wars figures, give them this story to read through. Who knows how much you can sell off your Hasbro Black Series Leia organa figure in the future.
