Ragnarok Director Taika Waititi On Which Side Thor Would Have Taken in Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: Civil War featured the biggest array of Marvel superheroes than any film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but we all know the airport battle scene could have been much bigger if Thor and Hulk had been there.

That said, whoever Thor and Hulk sided on will most likely win the fight, and Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has shared his thoughts on who the God of Thunder would have chosen and who he wants him to choose. However, the Kiwi filmmaker's answer rather makes the fight much more complicated than it is.

Waititi said he wanted Thor to take Captain America's side, but he thinks the demigod wouldn't have chosen any side at all.

In an interview with Fandango, Waititi was asked which side he thinks Thor would have taken in Civil War, and while his answer perhaps tells us more about the filmmaker than Thor, it's nonetheless interesting. He said:

We've talked a little bit about this. Personally, I feel Thor would have started his own team. He wouldn't have liked the idea of those teams. But, even though Thor is from outer space and he lives in a palace, part of me likes to think he would side with Cap. I would side with Cap purely because I don't trust billionaires.

I don't know whether to take this seriously or not. It sort of reminds me of Black Panther's stance in the fight, since the King of Wakanda simply chose Tony Stark's side for his personal vendetta against Bucky. If his father hadn't died, he probably wouldn't have taken any side in the fight.

As for Thor, he's a demi-god from Asgard. Of course he wouldn't have been swayed to take sides in such humanly affairs like the Sokovia Accords. However, it's hard to think of the hero putting up his own group. If he did, there wouldn't have been a clear and reasonable goal since the Sokovia Accords only has two sides – you support it or you don't.

Thor and Hulk may not have been around to choose sides in Captain America: Civil War, but they'll be back for a "buddy road movie" in Thor: Ragnarok, which hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
